9 Rectory Lane Poors' Field

The nature trail turns north near Wildecroft Cottage passing under a bridge that carries the railway line. It then turns east along a tree-lined avenue adjacent to the 60 acre Poors’ Field. The avenue is shown on the ordinance survey map of 1865 but without trees except for the magnificent oak tree which, according to its girth, could be around 300 years old.

The avenue is lined with trees - sycamore, horse chestnut, field maple, ash, devony oak, large leaf lime, hazel, hawthorn, elderberry and bramble which forms a dense ground cover by the side of the railway embankment.
